This head is the one that needs the 40 kg tripod. At 12.8 kg on a mast, a gust acts on the balloon and the tripod takes the moment, so the load rating and the wind rating both matter.

Where 224,000 lumens is the right answer

Large open sites, night-time emergency scenes, rail and bridge work, and any job where the alternative was a trailer-mounted tower with two metal halide lamps. One head replaces the pair on output and uses less than half the power.

It is the wrong answer where people walk close to the unit or where the site wants a defined edge. A head this size floods everything within its radius, which is the point in a yard and a nuisance next to a live lane.

  • The tripod can carry 12.8 kg at full mast height with wind.
  • The supply holds 1.4 kW continuous, or the head runs dimmed.
  • The site has room for the lit area: 8,171 m² is a large footprint to have at 50 lux.

Dimming is a power decision

Three step dimming is not a comfort feature on a head this size. Running at the middle step cuts the load enough to change which power station or generator can carry it, and on a long shift that is the difference between one power source and two.

The light stays the same colour at every step, because the head dims the whole array rather than switching panels off.

Two heads against one

A single 1400 W head is the cheapest way to light a large area, and it is also a single point of failure. Sites that cannot lose the light buy two 700 W heads instead: nearly the same total output, two shadows that cancel each other, and a spare if one fails.

The trade is transport and setup time. Two heads mean two masts, two power connections and two trips from the vehicle.

Before the order

  • Tripod: 4.8 m mast rated 40 kg, legs ballasted on soft ground.
  • Supply: 1.4 kW continuous at full output, or run dimmed on a smaller source.
  • Spares: filter and diffuser for the 100 cm balloon, both are consumables.
